Breastfeeding

“Breastfeeding is not a reflex; it is a learned process. In our present culture, many women have never witnessed an infant at the breast, and when a woman is called upon to nurse her own infant, much of her success depends on a learning process. Successful lactation depends on proper information.”
~Ruth A. Lawrence M.D.
If you plan to breastfeed or if you are newly breastfeeding now, you can benefit from the personal assistance of a Breastfeeding Counsellor.
In your own home, Heather can teach you the proper techniques of breastfeeding and thereby avoid or solve some of the most common problems encountered by many mothers during the first few weeks or months of breastfeeding.
You will receive one on one assistance with:
~proper positioning and latching
~strategies for sore, cracked or inverted nipples
~pumping and storing breastmilk
~infant cues and behaviour
~frequency and duration of feeds
~how to tell if baby is getting enough
When breastfeeding problems require medical attention, Heather will refer you to your caregiver for proper follow up care.
